Melissa,

You might want to try copying the file to your local drive (e.g.,
C:\Folder), working on it, and then copying it back up to the server;
have your PIs do the same. Often, applications want to see documents as
residing on the local drive or they won't work properly. Also, any time
you open a document over a network connection, the chances it will get
corrupted are increased.
