The Office for Sponsored Programs at the University of Connecticut,
Storrs Campus, is seeking a number of high-energy professionals to join
our team of University research administrators to provide post-award
financial services in a customer-service-oriented environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and detailed
review of sponsored research grants and contracts to assure compliance
with fiscal and procedural regulations and requirements established by
sponsors, the Federal government, State of Connecticut and the
University. Responsibilities will include interpretation and
application of relevant policies and regulations and use of sound fiscal
practices to perform grant accounting functions, including analysis of
grant awards for account set-up and input of grants/budgets into InfoEd
and FRS; monitor of financial activity for allowability of expenditures,
and review/approval of rebudgets and cost transfers; advising Principal
Investigators on budgetary issues affecting project accounts, such as
resolution of overdrafts, and providing oversight or assistance to meet
reporting obligations at account closeout; exercising good judgment in
clarifying and resolving issues of concern and acting as liaison between
the University, sponsor and Principal Investigator; maintaining
complete records and documentation; making ongoing recommendations for
improvement of current practices; performing other tasks as requested.
Required qualifications and skills include: (1) Bachelor's degree in
appropriate accounting- or business-related field plus four years of
relevant experience or eight years relevant experience in a business
organization or government agency involving accounting or budgeting; (2)
Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations; (3) Strong oral and
written communication skills; ability to communicate positively and
effectively with sponsoring and regulatory agencies, as well as faculty,
administrators and other members of the University; (4) Ability to think
critically, and analytically; (5) Ability to work independently and
collaboratively in a team environment, as required. (6) Experience using
computerized spreadsheets, databases and word-processing applications
desired, Microsoft Office Suite preferred. (7) Able to work
non-traditional hours as necessitated in order to accommodate
customer-service objectives such as occasional evenings and/or early
mornings prior to 8:30 a.m. Additional experience using mainframe
applications, including FRS, a plus.
These are full-time, permanent positions. Rank and salary will be
commensurate with experience.
