Re: H 1B visa expedited fee Margarita M. Cardona 12 Jul 2006 07:14 EST

Brenda,
We have paid for visa processing charges on a Federal grant, when the
employee is 100% grant funded, but we have never paid for expedited fees
(that issue has never come up).
Hope this helps.

Subject: [RESADM-L] H 1B visa expedited fee

We have a situation where a PI is hiring an international post-doc to work
on a sponsored project, and wants to charge the $1000 expedited processing
fee for the visa to the project. Our initial thought was that this was not
a reasonable charge for the project to bear, but the PI is very insistent.
We're interested in hearing how other institutions handle this. Do you
normally consider this an allowable charge, require sponsor approval, or
never allow? In this instance the sponsor is non-federal, but we aim for
consistency with both federal and non-federal sponsors. Your input is much
appreciated. Thanks,
