Here is a list summarizing the messages you will get from G.g and the
NIH. The full text is around someplace but this might help people
see what to expect

First you get the Grants.gov Confirmation message with the tracking
number (save this)

Then you will get 4 Grants.gov validation messages
1. We got it (this has the Application filing name, the rest only the
tracking number, pretty useless for large numbers of submissions)
2. It's ok. If there are errors -- wrong DUNS, for example - then
the second message will explain this
3. We sent it to the sponsor
4. The sponsor got it
(When we send 150 R01's and others in February, we will get 600
messages.)

This takes an hour or two per submission on a good day, can take up
to 2 days

Then NIH will validate it with an additional message.

1. We do not know who this is for -- no credential. Go to Key
Persons and put in the PI's user name
or
1. We got it and know whose it is but it has errors, go to Commons
to find the errors, fix the errors in the pure edge file and submit
it again

2. It has no errors (maybe warnings) go the to Commons to see if it
is presented ok, if not reject and send
a new copy. Only the grants office can reject this (after all, it is
not from the PI, it is from the University, so they must do the
rejection) If it is ok, then do nothing it will go to review in 2
days.

This all takes a couple of hours on a good day, or up to 2 days.

I've done 2 submissions so far, and each time we've received a total

OK guys, what am I missing.  I just submitted an R21 thru G.g ;
received an e-mail stating “your application has been received by G.g
and is currently being validated.”

One minute later, I got another e-mail stating “application has been
received and validated by G.g and is being prepared for Grantor
agency retrival and review”.

Is this it? It was validated within 2 minutes of submission??? Can
this be right?
