I assume you are talking about some kind of scientific conflict of interest,
where one (or both) investigators would not be properly critical of the
other investigator's analysis, design or some such part of the research.  I
assume that one investigator does not report to the other.  If there is a
concern, then probably a review committee would want to make sure that there
is someone else handling/supervising the portion of the research of most
concern - which I would assume would be the research design and the data
analysis.
