Post docs are considered full time employees here, and receive benefits
accordingly. Like others, they have to work a year before retirement
benefits are paid, so benefits are less for the first year (unless they
have worked elsewhere and already are part of TIAA-CREF or some other
retirement program).

Subject: [RESADM-L] multiple eb rates
Hello everyone,
At Lehigh University we negotiate two eb rates with ONR, one for all
full time employees and another for part time employees. One of our
faculty is complaining about paying the full time rate for his post-docs
and would like us to eliminate their retirement and medical benefits and
negotiate another rate for this specific group of employees.
I have two questions...
first, what sort of benefits do other schools provide to post-docs
working on research grants?
and second, do other schools negotiate separate eb rates for this group
of employees?
thanks for your help,
Bob Siegfried
