Re: Fixing a "split identity" on eRA commons Martin Low 13 Mar 2006 10:07 EST

Dear Colleagues:

We have had this issue frequently at Columbia University, and I'm
certain that other institutions have experienced dual records for the
same person.

The usual origin of these errors is one of the following:

1.) A PI serves on a review group, and when the administrator of the
PI's home institution adds the individual, the "select profile" doesn't
pop up with the PI's other record.

2. A PI transfers to your institution, and when the administrator of the
PI's home institution adds the individual, the "select profile" doesn't
pop up with the PI's other record.

3.) The "select profile" with the original record does pop up but then
when you click it, instead of creating an affiliation you are brought to
a list of grants and cannot get out of the software loop.

We have found that the best solution is to identify at least one
username for the PI in question and send it to the eRA Commons Helpdesk
E-mail requesting that they resolve the errors on their directory.

Regards,

Martin Emerson Low

Subject: Fixing a "split identity" on eRA commons

I'm trying to debug a problem on NIH's eRA commons for someone.
Hopefully, someone out there has a fix for this, because I've been
going through channels and running in circles.

Dr. X. changed departmental affiliations and rank some time ago. She
updated her personal profile on eRA commons.

However, she is _still_ getting email that refers to her old rank and
department, specifically email relating to her role on NIH study
sections.

I phoned tech support at eRA commons twice. First time, I was told "go
through the reviewer link," which Dr. X had already done. Second time,
I was told "talk to the SRA for the study sections." Dr. X had, and
was told to talk to the university, who told her they couldn't do
anything about it.

I'm still optimistically assuming that I can at some point tell a eRA
commons support person "go to this field in that database and correct
these facts," but right now it's still the classic tech support
experience -- no fun, no satisfaction, no results.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks in advance.

I can answer any question.
"I don't know" is an answer.
"I don't know yet" is a better answer.
