Re: NIH AREA Grant Proposal Brian Turner 23 Feb 2006 09:09 EST
I got mine accepted, finally, by putting the exact amount for indirect costs. To the penny. Good Luck Brian D. Turner Assistant Administrator Sponsored Programs Administration P.O. I have encountered the same problem with one of my AREA submissions (three others went through just fine), as have Bob Chestnut at Eastern Illinois and Liz Lieberman from Wellesley. Probably others as well. If anyone gets some advice from the Commons Help Desk that seems to work, please share with the rest of us. I'm still waiting for a call back from the Help Desk. We have been trying since Friday to submit proposals to the NIH AREA grant program. The consistent error message says: Indirect Cost Funds Requested for budget year 1 must equal the product of Indirect Cost Rate and Indirect Cost Base for the same year-Error." To complete the PHS 398 Modular Budget form, we filled in the section for Budget Period 1, with the Direct Costs being the total modular amount requested for the entire period of the project; and then we completed the Indirect Costs section by multiplying our Salary & Wages indirect cost type times the actual figure of salaries and benefits for the entire project period, and then we rounded the resulting figure down to a whole number for the Indirect Funds Requested. My calls to the eRA Commons help line resulted in a suggestion to round the resulting number up or to use the actual cents as well as the dollars. Neither option worked. Now the eRA people have referred me to the NIH help line, and I am waiting for a call back. I am probably overlooking something very simple, but I'm becoming a bit frantic that our faculty members' proposals may not get submitted in time. Thank you all!
