Re: InfoEd Proposal Development/Proposal Tracking Jon Hart 16 Feb 2006 11:23 EST
Susan, We have been using Proposal Tracking for about six-seven years now. It is a fine database, with the flexibility to insert user-defined fields where you want them, and to search on them. However, the search engine provided with the database is inadequate, so we use Crystal Reports to run our reports -- we have a data systems analyst/webmistress in our office who does all the reports for us. We received two previous versions of Proposal Development, but the faculty never used it as electronic submissions were not required of many sponsors we use (primarily NIH) and those who did had their own system (such as FastLane), and also because we do not have need of the routing ability, as the only approvals we require are the lab head and mine. We will shortly be getting the upgrade of this program, and expect our faculty, especially MAC users, to get on board in lieu of using the Citrix solutions in grants.gov. One major plus in the InfoEd products is that the founder of the company was a research administrator before becoming the head of this company. The products were originally designed by research administrators for research administrators, so you don't have that "the only information worthy of coming out of Sponsored Programs is financial" bias. In many products, it is obvious that the software designers have tweaked their financial software to try to adapt it to grants, and it just doesn't work. InfoEd is aware that there are compliance issues and reporting schedules, and allows you to enter that information. I used InfoEd's IRB software before I came to this job, eight years ago. I have known the InfoEd group for quite a while and have always been impressed with their knowledge and commitment, and service ethic. They are also very nice people. As they have gotten larger over the years, their bureaucracy has of course grown, but we still get good response to our problems or questions. This is not to say that their systems are perfect, but they are the best that we have found so far for our purposes. Hope this helps. Joni Jon Hart, M.P.A., C.I.P. We are considering only these two modules now, but if we proceed, and if PD/PTare better than sliced bread, we might look further. Thanks. Susan -- Susan B.
