As a grant writer, I'd love it if it were so, but I agree with Jon - no way
I'd see this as an allowable cost.

Camilla,

First of all, a K08 is not a "training grant" - it is an individual career
award.  Allowable costs include salary and fringe for the recipient, and
"Research Development Support" which includes (I am quoting from the
announcement (see
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-00-003.html):
"(a) tuition, fees, and books related to career development; (b) research
expenses, such as supplies, equipment and technical personnel; (c) travel
to research meetings or training; (d) statistical and computation services
including personnel and computer time.  All expenses must be directly
related to the proposed research career development program."

So it would appear that the charges that you describe, if I am interpreting
correctly, would not be allocable against a K08 award.

Do you know if we can pay an honorarium to a medical writer (to help in the
editing and writing) of a grant as a “publication cost” from a training
grant money (KO8)?
