Anne,

We have many faculty and staff appointed on a 12-month basis.  When a grant
is received on which they will work, they are payrolled directly on the
grant if salary support was budgeted for their equivalent effort -- such is
then handled as a buy-out of their appointment and salary dollars which are
freed up revert to their department.

Although the campus does have options for overload payments, it is very,
very seldom that a grant would result in such.  Especially with effort
reporting requirements, effort levels should never exceed a 100% total.
