Michael-

Right now, eCGAP submissions are still possible. While I agree with you that the move to ANY electronic procedure could be a good first step for some PIs...I am concerned about some of the differences between eCGAP and Grants.gov. Apparently, when using service providers for eCGAP, pre-submission error checking for NIH standards works fine. However, we were told yesterday by one vendor that when S2S systems begin talking first to Grants.gov in the transmission process, they will lose much of this capability. The result is almost inevitable NIH errors, applications returned, and the rush to re-submit prior to the deadline (as was discussed and lamented in several posts yesterday). Frankly, I want investigators to get a taste of this new reality...new conception of deadlines ASAP. I fear conversion from eCGAP to Grants.gov may be a public relations fiasco..."You make me use this new electronic submission procedure, and now you tell me it's not the real one!!?? And new forms??!!" [Shots ring out, close-in on wound, fade to black]
