Lots of good suggestions on errors to avoid here:

plus other aids for completing applications.
Most of the requirements for doing the forms correctly are in the 425
(R&R) instructions.

Let Marcia Hahn walk you through the 424(R&R)

The comment about the legal name of applicant is interesting. I had
not heard of that. I would have assumed that the name used in the
Institutional Profile in the Commons would be acceptable on the 424(R&R)
There is a note on the Commons Home page that they have extended the
time for getting in corrected STTR/SBIR applications to December 22
(original deadline was Dec 1). I suspect there will be similar
flexibility for the December 15 deadline.

Perfect timing that I thought I'd share some insight as to what we've
been dealing with for the Dec. 15th NIH deadline from R13/U13
applications to maybe save other's from pulling their hair out like
I've been since last Thursday.
We learned that - error's are received on an application (and not
accepted by the Commons and requiring resubmission of the
application) on the following:
PI Commons user name under the R & R Sr. Key Personnel - must be in
all cap's (sort of missed this in NIH's directives, but c'mon)
We cannot put our legal name on the 424 # 5 - the Commons only
accepts 40 characters - ours was too long, oops.
If submitting a revised, supplemental or continuation application and
indicating the NIH application number on the 424 #4 - no spaces
should be included (also make sure the department indicated it
correctly - ours did not) - this came from the NIH Helpdesk
Make sure that the PI, in their Commons Personal Profile - has your
Institution listed as their primary employer, if they have several
indicated.
Note also that the validation process is taking a very long time.....
5 hours yesterday so you can't even feel relief when you submit
through Grants.Gov and if you submit in the afternoon, it's a bit
uncomfortable leaving for the day not knowing that applications fate.
Hopefully this helps someone out and if anyone has a solution to the
quirks that have snuck up on us - please share. Happy submitting.
