Question Re: Intellectual Property Mary Watson 26 Oct 2005 10:16 EST

Dear Colleagues

I have a questions regarding intellectual property that has arisen due to a
chemistry researcher's activity. He has evidentially registered to have
compounds tested at the national Cancer Institute (part of NIH). I simply
do not know how to process this information and whether or not it needs
oversight by the IP committee, or any other entity on this campus. We have
never had this question come up before!

This question is precipitated by the just received note from one of our
chemist/researchers on campus as follows:

**************************************************************************
Mary,
We have submitted a compound for testing at National Cancer Institute (it
is a novel compound). They will test against approximately 60 diseases
(from cancers to Alzheimer's) in test tubes. The first step. Tom

What should be the role of the Intellectual Property Committee in this - is
there a role? I am at a loss as to what to do - if anything!
