The Grants Coordinator assists with the inception of program ideas, the coordination and preparation of proposals for funding and, when needed, assistance with the initial ramp-up of programs once an award is made. This position reports to the Arts & Sciences Dean of Natural Sciences and works closely with the staff of the university Office of Research Support, as well as with pre- and post-award grants management staff in individual departments. Specific Duties Include: Program Development - With the Dean and natural sciences faculty, identify solicitations and sponsors of possible interest to the strategic plan and to faculty research interests. - Track and understand faculty research interests in order to identify and facilitate collaborations. Proposal Development - With the PI and the Office of Research Support, coordinate and compile required components of proposals including biosketches, facilities descriptions and required forms and tables. - Request and facilitate the preparation of statements of work, budgets and other documentation for subcontractors and consultants. - Edit project descriptions, abstracts and references. - Develop project budgets, draft budget justifications. - Assist with documentation of cost sharing commitments, if required. - Gather required internal approvals. Sponsor Requests - As needed, assist with sponsor requests for additional information, site visits and revised budgets. - As needed, insure that all the required training and certifications are obtained by project personnel. - As needed, assist with preparation of protocols for the use of human subjects or animals in the proposed research. Post-award Program Set-up - If needed, assist PI in hiring and training of project support staff. - Assist PI in establishing procedures for technical and financial reporting required by the sponsor. Education & Experience: BA/BS required. Masters degree preferred. Exceptional communication and writing skills as well as strong computer skills are essential. Background in science and prior experience in grants writing or grant preparation and administration are desirable.
