The Children's Research Institute (CRI), an entity of the Children's National Medical Center, located in our Nation's Capital, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Director, Office of Sponsored Programs.  In this role, the successful candidate will serve as a key member of the CRI leadership; will provide professional guidance and support for faculty investigators throughout the life cycle of funded activities; and will direct all aspects of the administration and fiscal management of the Institute's grant and contract portfolio to ensure compliance and reduce exposure to risk.

The Children's Research Institute has experienced dynamic growth in recent years and has aggressively pursued opportunities and strategies to sustain this growth into the future.  Current federal funding of research, at $35million has tripled since FY2000 and now represents approximately 65% of our annual grant and contract portfolio.  To accommodate the dynamic growth of our research enterprise, construction of an additional 40,000 square feet of research laboratory and support facilities is underway.   The National Association of Children's Hospital and Related Institutions (NACHRI) currently ranks the CRI 7th in NIH awards to children's hospitals in the U.S.  Children's National Medical Center was ranked among the top 10 children's hospitals in the latest polls of both US News and World Report and Parent Magazine.

Reporting dually to the Medical Center's Chief Financial Officer and Chief Academic Officer, the Director will oversee the business, operational and administrative functions of our sponsored program activities.  The Director is expected to exhibit the effective, working leadership necessary to assure that a comprehensive research infrastructure is in place that will strengthen and streamline all key functional areas that support individual researchers, departments and cent
e, and that will enhance research activity and preserve the financial integrity of CRI.

The successful candidate will be a Certified Research Administrator (CRA) with not less than ten years of related and progressively responsible experience, of which a minimum of seven years will have been in a management/supervisory role, and will have a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or a related field.  A Masters degree or other advanced degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
