Rockefeller is unique in that we don't have departments (we have 75
individual laboratories), in order to foster collaboration. This means that
our OSP picks up the duties of a departmental office for many of the labs.
We ask for a rough draft two weeks before the deadline so that we can assist
with the budget, Other Support, and other administrative documentation, and
review as much of the application as we can get. We edit/correct it and
return it to the investigator. We require the final version to be in our
office two days before the deadline, but this is often ignored. We only
require the current version of the science at that time, as we recognize
that the investigator will be tweaking it until the last FedEx goes out
(they have been known to go running after the 10:00 pm truck at the final
pickup). We keep after them until they give us a complete final copy, after
it has been sent.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Lead Time for Your OSP?
Hello all,
This is just an informal poll to see how much lead time your sponsored
programs office requires to review a proposal. We ask for 5 business days to
allow for the proposal load, corrections, major problems, etc.
We also want the final draft, not rough drafts unless we had arranged to
help review and edit those ahead of time. What does your OSP do?
Thanks,
Andrew
