DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Manages the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).
Responsible for oversight of pre-award processing of grant proposal
submissions. Monitors proposals for compliance with sponsor and
university policies, and accuracy of budgetary and administrative
information. Responsible for oversight of grant and contract
negotiations and administration.

Responsible for managing the ORSP operating budget.

Serves as authorized institutional official, along with Provost and
Director, for all matters related to proposal submission and award
negotiation and acceptance. Reviews, approves, and signs non-Corporate
funding proposals (over 1000 per year) and award documents (over 600 per
year) for the Medical University of South Carolina, which was awarded
$160 million in non-Corporate extramural funds in FY05.

Supervises six grants administrators and two administrative assistants.

Works closely with ORSP Information Systems Manger to implement the MUSC
Electronic Research Administration Roadmap. Maintains current knowledge
of sponsors’ electronic research activities.

Assists in developing and providing institutional wide educational and
training sessions to university faculty and staff on a wide variety of
grants administration topics.

Confers with attorneys, US Department of State and US Department of
Commerce to coordinate university compliance with ITAR and EAR.

Attends national, regional, state, and local meetings concerning
Research Administration.
