Export Controls and Deemed Exports:
What the University Community Needs to Know
* Still confused about how the U.S. export controls regulations apply
to research and training at academic institutions?
* Concerned about when "Use of Controlled Research Equipment" applies
to your foreign national graduate students?
* Uncertain how and when to seek an "export license"?
On Friday, September 16, 2005 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Todd E.
Willis, Senior Export Policy Analyst with the Bureau of Industry and
Security, Department of Commerce, and Christopher Hanifin, Deputy
Counsel with the Office of General Counsel and Secretary, The Research
Foundation of the State University of New York, will demystify the
continuing confusion surrounding export controls and deemed exports, and
clarify how you determine when a license is needed.
This workshop is intended for faculty involved in international
research or whose students are foreign nationals; and for university
administrators in sponsored or international students programs, in risk
management, in purchasing units or offices that manage international
mail.
After participating in this workshop you will learn when to seek
assistance from the appropriate university official on potential export
controls issues and the kind of information used in documenting the need
for a license.
The workshop will be web cast from:
osp.syr.edu
Time will be made available to respond to your questions, which can be
sent to xxxxxx@syr.edu in advance of or during the workshop. Please put
"Export Controls Question" in the subject line.
Local participants are invited to join us at:
Room 062, Eggers Hall
Syracuse University
This event is jointly sponsored by Syracuse University, SUNY Research
Foundation, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and SUNY
Upstate Medical University.
