Vice President for Research

Boise State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Research.  Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Research serves as a member of the President's leadership team, and is responsible to lead efforts to build the research enterprise and infrastructure at Boise State University. The Vice President for Research will direct the development and implementation of Boise State's comprehensive research strategy in keeping with its mission to become a metropolitan research university of distinction. The Vice President for Research is responsible for promoting and supporting research and creative activity; enhancing extramural funding; formulating and maintaining university research policies and procedures; representing the institution to external funding organizations, government agencies and sister institutions; communicating research findings and activities to lay audiences; enhancing the research infrastructure to meet the needs of faculty, research staff, students and administrators; and developing a comprehensive research compliance program including performing risk assessment

Qualifications include:
·	a distinguished record of research and administrative leadership;
·	demonstrated success in advancing faculty research within and across disciplines, including the development of research centers;
·	demonstrated success in working with a wide spectrum of external funding organizations;
·	an understanding of the broad mission of a metropolitan research university;
·	an earned doctorate;
·	knowledge of intellectual property management, including technology transfer and university-industry relations;
·	knowledge of the federal appropriations process; and,
·	the vision and ability to advance Boise State University as a metropolitan research university of distinction.

Boise State University is a public comprehensive undergraduate and graduate institution that offers a range of nationally accredited programs and aspires to be a metropolitan research university of distinction. Boise State is home to 27 research centers, and is staffed by administrators and faculty dedicated to students and research exploration. Boise State was awarded approximately $22 million in sponsored project funding during 2004, more than doubling its award volume since 1999.

The University is situated near downtown Boise, the capital city of Idaho and the heart of a metropolitan area with a population over 500,000. Boise State is Idaho's largest institution of higher education with approximately 18,500 students and a growing enrollment. The University attracts students from every Idaho county, from all 50 states and over 65 countries, including large numbers of traditional age students, as well as working adults. The University consists of eight colleges with approximately 2,000 total employees, including 550 full-time faculty members, 425 part-time and adjunct faculty, and 1,000 individuals in support positions. Degrees and certificates are offered in more than 180 programs, including 33 masters and two doctoral programs, with additional doctoral programs planned for the future. The University is fully accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and is a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
