Dear Colleen: I like this structure; this is what I used to see in the previous institutions I have worked before. Would you give me an example of a specific account for NIH and explains the components as you understand them? -----Original Message----- From: Research Administration List [mailto:xxxxxx@HRINET.ORG] On Behalf Of Colleen Corcoran Sent: Wednesday, May 11, 2005 8:14 AM To: xxxxxx@HRINET.ORG Subject: [RESADM-L] chart of accounts We use Oracle grants and financials which tends to be more complex. Our chart of accounts includes the fund whether restricted or unrestricted, a high level research center code and high level sponsor information. I spoke with one of our accountants and she said 11 months out of the year she doesn't care that they have all that data, until the end of the fiscal year when she is doing the financial statements and annual report. Our financial statements show the total expenditures on federal awards by CFDA number. In our annual report we summarize grants by sponsor (DHHS, federal other, state, other) but then also break them down within our research centers and into specific departments. Having all that detail in the chart of accounts makes these reports much easier to produce. Colleen Colleen Corcoran Director of Grants and Contracts Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc.
