Re: When to use an off-campus rate Herbert B. Chermside 16 Apr 2005 08:59 EST

"Rent allocated to project" -- read CAREFULLY! and PRECISELY!
The "project" includes both the sponsor's funds and any institutional or
third party contribution (becomes cost sharing if recorded).

If you are doing a project "off campus" and need to rent the space, you can
charge the rent to the project and use the off-campus rate.

Also USEFUL -- If doing a project in someone else's space, for example an
outreach project in space provided by a local agency, count that space as
either rented (in which case actually pay rent, and budget for it) or
document that the space is cost-shared by that third party (include in a
subaward agreement if making a subaward). In either case, use your
off-campus rate.
