Re: PeopleSoft Grants Management Accounting Software Robert Beattie 11 Apr 2005 14:39 EST
Folks should keep in mind that the PeopleSoft grants module has a number of components. There is a post award financial aspect that helps make it easier to interface with the General Ledger. There is a component to create a proposal and award data base and there is a application creating module to allow faculty and staff to prepare applications. I think the latter has a work flow component too. When various of us at Michigan were helping to develop the original version, our post award staff liked the post award/ financial part of the system as it would make their use of the PS General Ledger much easier. I believe many universities have adopted the Grants module and use it in the Grants office to enter data and in the post award office. I have not heard of any that have faculty using the application creating aspect. Such a component must be able to create nice looking applications to send to sponsors. Does it now create applications that can be sent electronically to FastLane, NSPIRES, NIH, Ed e-Grants and all the other rogue e-systems, let alone Grants.gov. Is PS now working with NIH to send electronic applications? I recommend any who are evaluating PS Grants to differentiate among the various components and determine which will work at their institutions. I am very much interested in knowing of ANY university/research organization that is using the grant application component prior to an application coming to the Grants Office. That is, are there places where faculty and their staff are using the system to prepare applications. Thanks.
