Anyone interested in the development of translational clinical research should read the attached article by David Nathan.  It deals with some realities not often discussed.

His conclusion makes the important point that unless the "fruits of biomedical research" are used to "respond to the plight of real people", strong congressional support of the NIH budget will be lost.
