You can't use the same funds to match two different grants.  Why not
match the private foundation dollars with the federal award?  We have
had several projects where we have done that.

We have a federal grant.  The PI is also going to receive money from a
private foundation for a related activity. The private foundation
requires a match.

The PI wants to show the same cost share from an institutional account
for both the federal and private projects.  She argues that there is
"overlap"
since both projects serve the same population of students and certain
administrative tasks are the same for both.

I know that we could not do this with two federal awards, but what about
a private and a federal sponsor?

Is there any way to do this?
