Five years experience reading and interpreting federal guidelines, regulations and laws. Two years experience developing research proposal budgets. Preferred Qualifications Graduate or professional degree or certification with an emphasis in research contract/subcontract negotiation. More than two years of experience in the negotiation of research (not vendor) agreements or contracts/subcontracts with for profit organizations or the federal government. Demonstrated knowledge of University intellectual property policies and experience negotiating such issues. Knowledge of federal grant/contract regulations. Experience in submission of university research proposals and negotiation of intellectual property issues. Well developed interpersonal skills; the ability to work independently and pay attention to detail; professional demeanor. Purpose of This Position Negotiate terms and conditions of awards with primary emphasis on awards from industrial organizations, assist faculty and research staff in contractual matters relating to the submission of research proposals, primarily to industrial organizations. Essential Functions Provide contractual review services and guidance to faculty and research staff to enable them to secure research funding. Review and negotiate sponsored research agreements, contracts or subcontracts with primarily industrial organizations, including terms and conditions relating to intellectual property and publication rights and other contractual matters. Interpret University administrative procedures regarding sponsored research activities and apply appropriate regulations when necessary. Personally meet with representatives of sponsoring agencies and organizations, sometimes on-site, to finalize terms of contracts and/or agreements. Participate in the proposal and award review and negotiation for special federal and state programs. Marginal/incidental Functions Other related functions as assigned.
