The College of New Jersey Pre-Award Specialist Office of Academic Grants and Sponsored Research In a customer-oriented, integrated office, the Pre-Award Specialist, under the direction of the Vice Provost for Research, guides faculty and staff in all pre-award activities from identification of funding sources through submission of a proposal to negotiation, budget revision and acceptance of an award. Responsibilities include matching faculty and staff to targeted funding sources; implementing strategies to increase proposal submissions; editing proposals and assisting with preparation and submission, including compliance with RFP guidelines; presenting grant seeking workshops; processing electronic proposal submissions to funding agencies; providing access to and assisting in interpreting state, federal, and private funding agency guidelines; assuring compliance with state and federal regulations in proposal preparation, as well as the relevant issues pertaining to protection of human and animal subjects in organized research; creating and maintaining grants database; preparing statistical reports; producing newsletter, Research Domain, and other publications; maintaining website; providing technical assistance for use of Genius/Smarts database; serving as OAGSR liaison to the IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee). Qualifications. The position requires a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred); excellent writing skills (three years of professional writing and/or editing experience preferred); three years of general administrative experience (experience in grants administration and/or higher education preferred); ability to work well with college faculty and staff, excellent skills in Word, Access, and Excel; ability to master other programs, as needed; ability to understand broad concepts and also to maintain precision in working with details, strong problem-solving skills, ability to work well under deadlines with minimal supervision.
