Dear Colleagues,
The Northern Territory of Australia is requiring that we sign a Benefit
Sharing Deed. The explanation for the requirement is as follows:
The Northern Territory Government is in the process of considering its
policy for,
access to and use of, biological resources controlled by the Territory. As
such, it is now
a requirement for interested parties seeking access to the Territory's
biological resources
to enter into a Benefit Sharing Deed with the Territory. The Territory's
Benefit Sharing Deed
is similar to, but not the same as, a more commonly known Material Transfer
Agreement.
The Benefit Sharing Deed provides that where any intellectual property (IP)
is created
in the course of the research undertaken, involving the Territory's
biological resources,
then the ownership of that IP is shared equally between the Territory and
the University of
Nebraska at Omaha. The Benefit Sharing Deed is attached for your
consideration.
This is the standard Deed used for anyone wishing to access and use the
Territory's
biological resources.
Has anyone out there had any experience with this? If so, would you
contact me off line?
Thanks!
