Coca-Cola Foundation Grants Carlson, Claire 21 Oct 2004 15:57 EST

We have a faculty member who is preparing an application to the Coca-Cola Foundation, and are trying to determine if the award will be a grant or a gift so the appropriate office can handle the application. The Foundation guidelines calls the awards "grants" and mention indirect costs under the budget guidelines, but do not spell out the conditions attached to the award. In working with our university foundation, we have found that the best determining factor to settle the grants vs. gifts question to the satisfaction of both parties is the terms of the award -- i.e., whether the award is irrevocable or whether payment is contingent on performance. Attempts to talk to someone at the Coca-Cola FOundation to confirm the conditions attached to an award have so far been unsuccessful.

Has anyone received awards from the Coca-Cola Foundation, and if so, can you tell me the conditions of the award and whether you treated it as a grant or a gift?

Thanks.

Claire
