Professional Leave Policy Rudy Ziehl 01 Oct 2004 15:50 EST

We recently have made arrangements with our provost's office to
provide part-time leave for a faculty member who is submitting a
SBIR proposal through a company created and owned by the faculty
member. For the Phase I proposal, the faculty member must be less
than 49 percent of time at the university.

Long term we would like a policy so that these are not done on an
individual basis. We would like to know what other universities do
for Professional or Research Leaves. What policy do you have for
Research Leaves ( not sabbaticals) where the faculty wants a leave
without pay as part of a contract or externally funded project such
as the SBIR? Are medical costs still paid for by the university?
