We are currently using only the Post Award component of the Research
Accounting/Grant Module of Banner. We went live with Banner Finance and
the Grants Module in July 2000 after a very quick implementation. We
have since added a number of different Banner modules (Alumni, Student,
Payroll, Fixed Assets, Budgeting/Position Control).
The person responsible in the Research & Sponsored Programs Office, at
the time of our implementation, was getting ready to retire. With all
the work we were facing to get the Accounting side (for both Finance and
Grants) up and running (our stronger priority at the time), it was
decided not to proceed with the Proposal component of the module at that
time. This portion of the module was reviewed again a couple of years
ago and after reviewing the needs of those responsible for PreAward and
the limitations/capabilities that Banner offered, it was tabled again.
We are currently in the process of hiring a new VP for Research and the
department is being reorganized. It wouldn't surprise me if this is
revisited again after things begin to settle but for the moment this
portion of the module is not being utilized. If there is anyone
successfully using this module, we would be interested to hear about it.
Sincerely,
Joyce
