Re: Banner Wendy A. Lawrence-Fowler 08 Jul 2004 09:41 EST

We are going with ORACLE.....however, we discovered late into the process
that the pre-award module is lacking in most aspects. We also discovered no
other university tat has actually rolled out the pre-award module. However,
as of Jan 2005, we will be using the module to route proposals for
signature, etc.

Planning for this roll out - along with all of the other groups on campus
included HR and Financials, has forced the opportunity to look at all of our
business processes. We have been able to define new processes that better
align the tasks associated with research and sponsored projects. Please let
me know how the Banner process goes and if anyone else is considering ORACLE
or has made the commitment, please let me know -

Subject: Re: [RESADM-L] Banner

We will be going to Banner soon, for accounting.

We are thoroughly committed to InfoEd for all our pre-award, and we also
have Human Subjects, Animal Subjects, and will soon be coming up with
Proposal Preparation and Protocol Preparation. This will provide us with a
comprehensive, integrated and fully electronic pre-award and received award
system. Therefore we will not be thinking about the Banner pre-award. We
will have to develop certain interfaces so that Accounting can take the
InfoEd data as input to Banner. InfoEd should be able to provide a
starting point for that which we will have to tweak for our specific
installation.

I'd be delighted to hear of others' success or discouragement with the
Banner pre-award, and any ideas about moving information from a different,
but much more complete, preaward database to Banner.
