I agree with you Donna on the cost-sharing.  In cases like this, when
you deal with upset faculty members, it may also be a good idea to
talk to the experts, the program officers and perhaps to have the
faculty member contact the program officer herself.

It's interesting that some of the same people who tell their students
not to rely on peer hearsay do exactly the same when it comes to
soliciting external funding.
