GRANT ACCOUNTANT, BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Grant Accountants, the Grant Accountant is responsible for the daily operations of post-award grant administration and related accounting duties.  The Grant Accountant is responsible for the administration of research, basic, applied, or clinical research grants or service programs.  The Grant Accountant will serve as the appropriate Principal Investigator's contact for all grants and contract administration and related accounting functions.  The Grant Accountant supports a positive and constructive relationship between various personnel and departments.  Perform other duties as required.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
Shares responsibility for the effectiveness within the Grants Administration division to ensure that high quality financial services are delivered in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
Utilizes hospital's values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.
Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures
Performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all grant related post-award functions including, but not limited to: budget and expense analysis; monthly invoicing; financial reporting; labor distribution changes and associated communications with customers; reconciliation's; and rebudgeting. .  Review GL transactions to ensure accuracy and complete journal entries as required.
Perform all grant closeout functions, as required by Grants Administration and sponsor including, but not limited to: reconciliation's, Financial Status Reports, final invoices, purchase order liquidations, zeroing out budgets, final reporting and, where permitted, carryover of available funds.  Ensure Accounts Receivable does not contain a balance.
Assist with the time and effort reporting system, ensuring that time and effort is completed in compliance with all applicable regulations.
Review and approve requests from Principal Investigators for the rebudgeting of grants and contracts.  Contact Sponsor for approval when required.
Provide Research Information Assistant with the proper information for grant setup.
Prepare or review reports to be submitted to sponsors.  Review reports with appropriate Principal Investigator and submit in accordance with program sponsor deadlines.  Ensure that reports, which are the responsibility of the Principal Investigator, are submitted in a timely manner.
Maintain regular communication with each department/program; meet quarterly.
Communicate with fiscal contacts at funding source for problem resolution and information gathering.
Assist Supervisor of Grant Accountants in training of new Assistant Grant Accountants and Grant Accountants.
Working with the Supervisor of Grant Accountants, conduct orientation sessions with new Principal Investigators and Administrators to ensure mutual understanding of grant and contract requirements, and Grants Administration policies and procedures.
Supports Supervisor of Grant Accountants in education and training of Principal Investigators and Administrators.
Continually assess needs and resolve issues of the Principal Investigator related to grants administration.
Perform analysis and support for ad hoc projects as needed.
Act as a backup for the Supervisor of Grant Accountants.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS/BA or equivalent work experience preferred, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business.
Requires strong computer skills, including a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel software packages.
Knowledge of Federal and Non-Federal regulations and operation polices including OMB A-110, A-122 and A-133, and OASC-3 and PHS grants policy statement.
Individual should have strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of analytical ability.
Communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
