MANAGER, SPONSORED PROGRAMS - JOB # 04035
BACKGROUND:
Old Dominion University Research Foundation provides administrative
services in support of the sponsored programs and technology transfer
activities of Old Dominion University and its affiliated organizations. The
Research Foundation performs contract negotiation, financial reporting,
purchasing, accounting, payroll, and human resources functions for
sponsored research projects as well as technology licensing. In Fiscal
Year 2003, the Research Foundation managed nearly $34 million in research
expenditures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Manager, Sponsored Programs operates as contracting officer for complex
matters and supervises staff performing pre- and post-award grant and
contract administration functions. Trains and fosters development of
sponsored programs administrators. The position serves as a resource for
interpreting sponsored program requirements for Research Foundation staff,
principle investigators, and University administrators. Ensures compliance
and maintains working knowledge of Research Foundation and University
policies on research administration as well as sponsoring agency
regulations, policies, procedures, forms and guidelines. Provides technical
assistance as part of the Research Foundation management team and
participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and at least five years related
experience. Knowledge of federal regulations for research administration,
including OMB Circulars, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and federal
agency guidelines, is critical. Prior work in a higher education financial
or research administration environment is preferred. Strong interpersonal
skills are needed, preferably including previous supervisory experience.
