"Me too"'s on the list...

First of all, I don't need a copy of the file. Ha ha, had to get that in
there!
To address the issue of the Reply-To address' setting - - Current Internet
standards dictate that the From: and Reply-To: fields in email notes must
be set to the resource that is sending the email. Normally, this is the
person sending the note with regular person-to-person emails. For lists,
it's actually the ListServ sending the notes out.
A popular way for mail servers to detect SPAM is to see if the email is
actually sent from the host/domain that the email says it was. Since
RESADM-L is transmitted from HRINET.ORG, if the From or ReplyTo fields
contain xxxxxx@somewhere.edu (the poster of the RESADM-L message)
instead, a large portion of RESADM-L's users (including me!) would actually
have all the lists's activity filtered by their enterprise SPAM filters.
That being said, the list DOES accept attachments as long as they're under
300k. The ListServ WILL virus scan the attachments as well. So, if the
attachment is small, perhaps posting the attachment to the list would
generate less traffic than 100 "Me too!" emails.
In the grand scheme of things, having replies go to the list benefits us
all as everyone can participate in discussion/debate. Sure, a periodic
personal reply hits the list, but in those rare cases we can all point,
laugh, and get on with our work.
