 Education Development Center (EDC) is an international, nonprofit organization with 325
 projects dedicated to enhancing learning, promoting health, and fostering a deeper
 understanding of the world.For the past 45 years, EDC employees have worked together to
 improve education and health around the world. In the last decade, the number of employees

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR : OFFICE OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS
(exempt position)

Summary: The Assistant Director acts as the key liaison to designated
Center Directors, Project Directors, Project Staff and Business Services
staff in the administration of sponsored programs, provides guidance to
junior OSP staff and is independently responsible for assigned process and
systems improvement initiatives for OSP.

Essential Functions:

1.    Act as the key liaison to designated Centers for Business Services.

2.    Primary business contact with sponsors and subawardees.  Participate
in contract negotiations as required.

3.    Support proposal, project management and business services processes
by providing interpretation of proposal requirements, award terms, and
regulatory and compliance issues.

4.    Provide analysis and evaluation of proposals, awards and subawards;
approve cost proposals and recommend for institutional signature.  Advise
and assist center and project staff on the development of proposal and
project budgets as needed.

5.    Participate in drafting contracts and subawards, working closely with
General Counsel as needed.

6.    Ensure timely review, control, and oversight of all stages of awards
and subawards.

7.    Participate in business and financial reviews.

8.    Ensure accurate and timely input and maintenance of data in EDC’s
Award Database.

9.    Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge and expertise in funder
agencies’ regulations policies and procedures.

10.   Assist in the development and documentation of policies, procedures
and guidelines in the areas of proposal submission, award compliance and
administration, and subaward processes.  Provide training and serve as
resource in the implementation of changes in practice to conform to policy
as required.

11.   May supervise or provide mentoring to junior OSP staff.

12.   Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  Experienced professional in grants and contracts function.
Minimum 5 years related experience and Bachelor’s degree required. Masters
preferred.  Position requires sound business judgement and financial
expertise, as well as excellent interpersonal communications and
organizational skills.  Proven ability to independently carry out special
projects in sponsored programs systems and process improvement and
demonstrated ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced,
team-oriented environment.  Ability to generate multiple solutions for
problem solving is critical to success in this role.  Expertise in standard
business software including Excel and Word required.  Prior experience with
grants management software.
