Director of Grants & Contracts Management

Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in San Antonio, Texas is seeking a Director of Grants and Contracts Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for operations of the Grants and Contracts Management Office to include preparation and processing of the administrative sections of grant applications and contract proposals, including preparation of budgets, monitoring costs and expenditures, and tracking percent effort commitments of principal investigators; preparation and distribution of required budgetary, financial and administrative reports to Foundation staff, grantors, contractors, and relevant governmental agencies; ensuring compliance with administrative policies, provisions and contractual terms specified by the Southwest Foundation, donors, grantors and contractors; and training, supervision and evaluation of the office staff. This position reports to the Foundation's Treasurer.  To carry out the growing volume and complexity of these tasks, the Director of Grants and Contract Management will be responsible for modernizing and computerizing operations of the Grants and Contract Management Office.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in business (preferably with a major in accounting) or a Bachelor's degree in a biological science with an MBA. Experience in grant and contract management, or grant and contract accounting is required. A CPA would be a plus. Experience in a non-profit, scientific research environment is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills required for supervisory role and for interacting intensively with scientists, administrators, government agencies and contractors. An aptitude for attention to detail and accuracy is required. Must be able to develop and manage a financial database.
