Re: NIH Regional Seminars Terry May 30 Jan 2004 14:24 EST

We hosted one of the NIH Regional seminars in Lansing in April 2002, and I
cannot stress enough the importance and value of this to not only our
university community but also to our guests from neighboring institutions,
and those from afar. Each workshop can be tailored in slightly different
ways based on the local circumstances, but NIH carefully maintains
continuity between sessions to cover consistent and critical issues. In the
for what it is worth category, our web site is still available at
http://www.vprgs.msu.edu/nih02/. Each host institution handles local
arrangements differently, but we provided handouts of all presentations,
including a CD with them in electronic format. The overall seminar is
relevant to both researchers (not so much for seasoned NIH PIs) and research
staff / administrators. I recommend that those considering attending look
carefully at the "local flavor" but definitely those from other regions will
benefit equally.

The NIH staff in attendance work exceptionally hard to make themselves
available and to assist - they are great & attendees will get out of it
pretty much what they invest! I endorse NIH's and the host institution's
efforts highly and thank them for it! Terry-
