Faculty Research Incentives Ruth B Smith 20 Jan 2004 13:38 EST

Dear Colleagues:

We are exploring ways of increasing our research volume and participation.
One idea we are considering is bonus or incentive payments to faculty
members who obtain sponsored programs funding for some portion of their
salaries. Naturally, we want to assure it does not violate any of the laws
or regulations to which we are subject. There was an article in the
Chronicle last spring regarding an incentive program and I am curious
whether any other universities are doing something similar.

If your institution has a research incentive or investigator bonus payment
program, please provide details or a URL to point us in the right
direction. I would also welcome other ideas and motivational strategies.
Thank you.

Best regards,

Ruth Smith
