High speed internet charges Susan Pelton 07 Jan 2004 17:17 EST

Hi,

I am wondering how people are handling requests for reimbursements for high
speed internet connections. Many of our PIs conduct grant-related work from
their home offices and are requesting reimbursements for some or all of
their internet connection fees. While SFSU provides a free dial-up services,
many PIs complain that it is too slow and takes them too long to download
information required for their research.

Does your institution reimburse for these types of expenses? If so, do you
pro-rate it somehow, since it's impossible to prove that all of the internet
use was directly related to a particular grant? We are getting more and more
requests for these types of reimbursements and are wondering how other
institutions are handling this issue.

Thank you.
Susan
