I agree that travel to this area is indeed worrisome.  I would suggest that
you contact your dept. of risk management.  Here at RU, depending on the
travel advisory, the university will not allow students to go.  They would
meet with the faculty, make sure he/she is fully informed of the risks and
let them decide.
