Re: IRB Approval JCU Grants Administrator 16 Dec 2003 16:16 EST

It depends. If a researcher wants to come on campus to conduct the research
here, we generally require a JCU sponsor and a JCU IRB application to review
in addition to the researcher's home IRB approval memo.

However, if a researcher is only posting recruiting notices on our campus
but conducting the research elsewhere, the first step would be to look at
home IRB approval and the original IRB application. A JCU application is
generally not necessary.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [RESADM-L] IRB Approval

What is your policy when an external institution or researcher wants to
conduct a research study using your institution's students (faculty,
employees, etc)? Does your IRB approve study based on the other
institution's IRB approval (assuming they had approval in advance)? If
so, what materials do you require before approving? Does it make a
difference if the study qualifies as exempt, expedited, or full board
review? If not, do you require a separate review by the IRB using your
institution's forms and process? Thanks in advance.
