The Ohio State University ranks 5th in the nation in industry sponsored research and development expenditures. To support and grow this enterprise, The Ohio State University is seeking a Director for the Office for Business and Industry Contracts (OBIC) in the OSU Research Foundation. OBIC staff are responsible for managing all aspects of industry sponsored research, from proposal review and submission through contract negotiation, compliance review, project financial management to project closeout. The Director of OBIC supervises and develops professional and support staff and oversees the operations of the office. S/he monitors workloads to assure efficient operations and modifies processes as appropriate to optimize staff effectiveness and facilitate University-sponsor interactions.
On a day-to-day basis, the director has the following responsibilities: provides proposal and project support for an assigned constituency; negotiates agreements that support industry sponsored research while also protecting the interests of the University and the investigator; reviews and provides institutional signature (or delegates as appropriate) on all Business and Industry contracts; serves as primary resource on matters of intellectual property/technology transfer for other members of the OBIC and the Office of Grants and Contracts (the Research Foundation unit that manages awards from government and not for profit sponsors); and establishes and maintains communication with other Research Foundation departments, OSU's Office for Technology Partnerships, researchers, college and department staff and other university personnel as appropriate.

Requirements:
The candidate selected for this position will have at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; an advanced degree and Certified Research Administrator (CRA) status are preferred. Also required is at least five years experience in the acquisition, negotiation, and management of university research programs sponsored by business and industry (including federal pass thru contracts). Knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing issues as they pertain to university research agreements is expected. The successful candidate must have excellent communication, interpersonal and contract negotiation skills, and demonstrated leadership and managerial skills and abilities. A high level of sound judgment and independent decision-making is also required.
Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience within a range of $65,000 to $85,000.
