The University of Connecticut Health Center utilizes the InfoOffice suite from InfoEd International, Inc. We are very happy with this fully integrated package that will allow us electronic submission for internal review and to external funding agencies. It also allows for tracking and submission of compliance protocols, whether that be IACUC, ACC, or Safety. There are two aspects to consider when embarking on a huge endeavor such as an electronic research system. There is the software functionality side and the customer service side. Both sides are equally strong for InfoEd. Their current software is very manageable and allows for the institution to tailor the product. Any implementation requires a lot of forethought and pre-planning and the more, the better with this type of product, although at any point you can add more fields to capture more information. The added bonus of their product is that they are open to suggestions and update their package so that it will consistently meet the users requests. Their customer service is great. Someone always picks up the phone and they respond to e-mails as quickly as possible. I would definitely look into InfoEd as an alternative to a homegrown system.

VCU uses the InfoOffice suite of programs from InfoEd. Their version 10
will be out around the beginning of the year. That version has added the
Proposal Development module and an n-tier security system. Proposals
prepared in that module are routed for approval electronically, with the
routing controlled by the security system, which the institution
maintains. This is a broad research administration system, not merely a
routing program.
