We have always inserted "To the extent allowed by the laws of the Commonwealth
of Virginia..." in front of the indemn. paragraph(s), when we can't
get the paragraph(s) removed. This has always worked.

I'm looking for suggestions for how to handle indemnification in a subcontract (on a federally-funded project) to a state university. Our lawyers require indemnification, the state university is unable to comply. How have you resolved this kind of issue? Thanks for any guidance.
