College of Charleston is a Masters I liberal arts and sciences
university with no medical school, 9,500 undergraduates, 1,500 graduate
students, and about 470 roster faculty. We plan to hire a dedicated
full-time Environment, Health and Safety professional...who will deal
with biosafety including rDNA, chemical hygiene, and radiological safety
in our teaching and research programs and OSHA compliance in our
teaching and research programs as well as establishing and coordinating
associated committees. I have been asked to collect sample position
descriptions and some idea of the structure and support of this type of
position at comparable institutions. If you could, please tell me the
following:
(1) How many undergraduate and graduate students do you have?
(2) How many roster faculty?
(3) To whom does your EH&S officer report?
(4) What level position does yoru EH&S officer occupy? Classified or
unclassified? Middle management or executive administration? Faculty?
Other?
(5) What education/experience does your EH&S officer have (or what are
the minimum requirements for the position)?
(6) What is the Salary range::
