The Children's Research Institute (CRI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Children's National Medical Center, a major private, not-for-profit, pediatric academic medical center located in our Nation's Capital. CRI has been engaged in a program of organized research since 1948, pursuing it's mission "to develop and maintain medical research and academic training programs that will lead to improved understanding, treatment, and prevention of the diseases of infancy, childhood and adolescence."
CRI currently receives approximately $64 million in external grant and contract funding annually, of which over $43 million is in support of over 250 active research projects. Over the past five years, CRI has experienced annual growth in its portfolio of external funding, ranging from 20% to 30%. Funding from the National Institutes of Health and other agencies of the US Public Health Service comprises nearly 63% of our annual external funding.
Responsibilities:
The Director will be responsible for all pre-award and post award activities associated with our research program. Major responsibilities will include:
· providing assistance (non-scientific) to faculty in the development and submission of proposals
· reviewing and negotiating awards
· monitoring compliance with the policies and regulations of sponsoring agencies and the Medical Center
· maintaining a system to provide financial grant monitoring and reporting to investigators
· overseeing technology transfer activities
· developing policies and procedures necessary for the effective operation of the department
· developing internal training programs to further faculty and staff understanding of fiscal and administrative research compliance isssues
Minimum Education Requirements:
Graduate degree in an academic or professional field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated progressive management experience and growth in sponsored program administration in a large to mid-size academic/medical private sector setting or in a grants management branch of a federal or private grant-awarding agency.
Reporting:
The Director, Office of Sponsored Programs reports to the Executive Director, Children's Research Institute and will have direct supervision of the activities of two full-time and two part-time staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs.
