Re: small business definition Riccillo, Claudine 21 Jul 2003 12:01 EST

We have an issue here at UT El Paso (and at all of Texas Public Universities) that poses some questions I would like to have some opinions on from the list-serve. Our recent negotiations for our insurance benefits have resulted in a loss of some benefits to our students effective Sept 1. In the past, any grad student with a 50% appointment was entitled to health insurance paid by the state at 100% for the individual. Now only 50% of the cost will be picked up by the state and the student will have to pay the other 50%. This applies to all TA's and RA's.
Our faculty is asking if they can still use their grant funds already budgeted for student health insurance to pick up the cost not covered by the state. The grad students paid as TA's by the state will get a "stipend" to cover the costs of the health insurance not paid out of the benefit pool. Can we still pay the benefits for the grant paid students in lieu of a "stipend" or should we increase the student's salaries? Can we do either?

Susie, it varies from industry to industry.
Try
http://www.sba.gov/
go to the glossary and work from there. I got part way in and it looks
like the info will be there.
