This discussion is just too interesting not to put in my thoughts. I
have a PhD in Higher and Adult Education with 25+ years of experience in
research administration. When my current position was advertised
several years ago a PhD. I believe the idea was that my doctorate would
give me more credibility with the faculty. I do know that my PhD
advisor indicated this to me when I was working on my degree. I have
two professional positions in my office in which we require a Master's
degree. One of the reasons it is stated that way is to get the salary
at a decent level, and here in Tennessee it is still not competitive.
